Amazing gluten free pizza at Voglia di Pizza in Rome, Italy

When I first visited Rome (Roma) in 2010, I really wasn’t a fan. It’s too touristy for my liking and I cannot stand all the restaurants advertising ‘tourist menus’ in 10 languages around every famous site.

I’ll be honest, I never thought that I would say that I now enjoy spending an afternoon or evening in Roma. But now that’s the case.

We’re like old regulars with our favourite gelato shop and pizzeria. We no longer have the need to see all the big sites, aside from the Coliseum at night which is a must. Whenever we fly to Europe, we try to always fly in or out of FCO for two reasons: (1) it’s a cheap jump off destination and (2) to get authentic pizza and gelato. Last year was my first time trying the pizza at Voglia di Pizza and I’ve been dreaming about the gluten free pizza ever since. I did a lot of research last year for recommended gluten free pizza and there were several good reviews for Voglia di Pizza. It was incredible pizza (I actually ordered two that visit). Good authentic Italian pizza is hard to find in North America, let alone a gluten free version. That’s why I always look forward to visiting Voglia di Pizza.

On this trip, we spent an afternoon and evening in Roma before renting a car to drive north to Tuscany (Toscana). I knew I had to eat that pizza again. Once we got our gelato fill at San Crispino (THE best gelato shop in Italy) we booked it over to Voglia di Pizza. Voglia di Pizza is a haven for Celiacs in Italy and for us travelers who have to eat gluten free. Not only do they offer gluten free pizza, but they have an entire gluten free menu including antipastos, pastas and desserts! I always stick to pizza since it’s the most difficult to find elsewhere. The pizza was delicious yet again, although the crust was a bit crunchier than last year. There was no question in my mind that I was going to order the Buffala pizza with added pomodorino. Let me take you through a bite of the pizza: the pomodorinos burst with flavour, joined with the creamy buffala mozzarella and sweet basil. The toppings complement each other so well that you’ll want all three toppings in each bite atop the delicious olive oil and crispy thin crust. The flavours play in your mouth. I’m so grateful every time I get to eat good Italian pizza.

Giddy with excitement!
