A Magical Gluten Free Day at Disney World

It is very well known around the gluten free and allergy community that Disney is a pro when it comes to catering to food allergies and intolerances.  Whether it’s Disney World or a Disney Cruise, you can bet you and your family will be taken care of!  When Ryan and I decided to spend a day of magic at Disney World while we were visiting his grandparents in Florida, I was ecstatic to see Mickey Mouse as I hadn’t been since I was 9, but I was also excited knowing that I would have a good meal ahead of me.

During the day, we stopped by the Liberty Square Market for a quick pit stop.  My Auntie Barb (a Disney fanatic) recommended that I stop by there if I wanted a snack, or in her words, “if you want to get fruit and healthy food because that’s what you like.”  Fresh fruit and gluten free/soy free kettle chips were delicious and just the right pick me up I needed while waiting in the lineup for the new Little Mermaid ride!

We lucked out by getting a sit down dinner reservation at Liberty Tree Tavern in Liberty Square (little did we know how perfect the timing was too because the parade went by that street shortly after we finished eating).  I was excited for the meal after a long day of rides and walking around the park and now I understand firsthand what all of the hype is about!  I did not feel left out at all as I was able to eat almost everything that was served.  Liberty Tree Tavern has a colonial theme where all of the wait staff are dressed up in colonial wear and the New England-inspired food is served family style.  Typically the food is served on platters for the table to share, but because of my gluten intolerance, they brought my food and Ryan’s food out on our own separate plates.  There was too much food really and I wonder how we both ever managed to go on Thunder Mountain twice in a row right after the meal!!!

The ‘Bill of Fare’ as they call it, started off with a tossed salad.  Then I was served two slices of each roasted turkey breast, carved roast beef and sliced roast pork, served with mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables.  As a treat I even got my own gravy boat filled with delicious gluten free soy free gravy!!  It looked way better than the kind Ryan got.  Oh I was spoiled!  The food was delicious and the meats were so tender, nothing like you’d imagine eating at theme park, but after all this is Disney and they do everything right!

The chef personally came to the table to discuss my dinner options, as well as to serve my food.  Even when they served me ice cream for dessert and I explained that I couldn’t eat the guar gum that it was made from, they insisted on bringing me a delicious fruit bowl.

Disney World is such a magical place and it just added to the experience that I was able to safely eat a delicious meal (instead of always relying on my granola bars).  It was the best meal I ate during our short trip to Florida, I mean obviously it was better than Applebee’s!
